Europe – Bill Gleason (Chair), Mike Pogar (Asst.): January 14 – 23, 2005; Zermatt, Switzerland – We had a very successful picture party on Sunday, May 1st at Prairie Rock Brewing Company in Schaumburg. We had 26 people out of the 42 people on the trip attended. A lot of great pictures in photo albums and on computer laptops were shown. We also gave a preview of next year’s trip to Val Gardena. A number of people signed up (with a deposit). It looks like this is going to be a very popular trip.

Winter Carnival – Nettie Napravnik (Trip Chair): March 12-14, 2006 - Schuss/ Shanty Creek – Don’t forget to sign up for lodging lottery at Seminar. No money down is required, but you can vote for a theme.

Chicago Week 2005 – Lynn Newton (Chair), Debbie Clegg (Asst.): March 19 –26, 2005 – Banff, Alberta, Canada –
This Chicago Week was like others in the past except that each event was at a different place. We started out the week at Lake Louise Ski Resort with a Welcome Breakfast there and then after a day of skiing we had an après ski Welcome Party in a different room at Lake Louise Ski Resort. The Welcome Party included a fun band who played for us. I heard that the food at both events that day were really good. Monday was another ski day at Lake Louise and we had the first race there. Tuesday we went to Sunshine Mountain and had an après ski at the ski resort. That après ski was helped by Viking Ski Shop as a sponsor. Wednesday was a free day and the night included most ski club parties. During the day many went to Kicking Horse to ski, some went ice walking in Johnson's Canyon, a few went dog sledding and a few skied at one of the 3 local ski areas. Thursday we went to Norquay, the closest ski area to Banff. We had our 2nd race there and a good lunch after the race. I think most everyone was there and enjoyed it. Thursday night we had the pubcrawl including 5 of the bars in Banff. There were questions to be answered in each bar and the winning team included Keith and Debbie Fanta, Mike Pogar and Randy Baustert. Friday was back to Sunshine but it tended to be a short day for most because it was the only day with big crowds. That Friday was Good Friday and we found out it's basically a national holiday in Canada so the crowds came to enjoy the best snow at Sunshine. Friday night was the final night dinner at the Banff Springs Hotel. We had a beautiful room, gave out lots of raffle prizes (another big thank you to Viking Ski Shop), gave out the race awards and danced to music from a D.J. after enjoying a Mexican Dinner.
I want to thank all of the people who helped out during the week. First a big thank you to Debbie Clegg who was the assistant trip leader for this trip and Lester Hampton for running the races. Helping to punch credential cards at each event included Keith and Debbie Fanta, Randy Baustert, Gary Kaufman, Mike Pogar and Lynn Manley. A big thank you to all of them for their help and anyone else I missed mentioning.

Chicago Week 2006 – March 25 – April 1, 2006 – Aspen, Colorado: The tour operator is getting all of the air he can possibly get. We will ask for an additional $45 for those who paid $5 last year. $40 of that is for air, $10 for lodging. Lynn Newton will be proposed for trip leader and Mary Kreinbring will be proposed for her assistant.

Trip Selection Chicago Week 2007 – Teri Kinney: The trip will be to Sun Valley March 24 – 31, 2007. We are trying to get details worked out. Some lodging prices are coming down. A $5 deposit will be requested at Seminar. You will get $10 off the price of the trip for the early deposit.

Trip Selection Europe 2006 – Mike Pogar: The trip is to Selva di ValGardena, January 13 – 21, 2006. The cost is $1469.00. Contact Mike Pogar (proposed trip leader) at 847-381-4452 or mpogar@sbcglobal.net or Bill Gleason (proposed assistant) at 630-969-6185. High Alpine Adventures is the tour operator.

Paul Gard was elected for Vice President with Rachel Miller for Secretary and Vince Harbison for Treasurer. Paul, Rachel & Vince are all new officers this year. The board members are Ginny Moffitt, Henry Bottando, Jack Anderson and Tim Mantel. Their annual “End Of The Year Banquet” is at The Patio in Merrillville, IN on April 29th. One more official duty as a regional, we’ll have to go to this party, too. Again this year, Duneland is hosting the Indy 500 trip on May 29th. Rich Gallas has all the information on that.
Fort Wayne had their election on April 8th along with a celebration party for the awards they won at Winter Carnival, which includes Ultimate Club. All the Officers have retained their positions, which are: Dave Billion, President; Michelle Bender, Vice President; Brenda Gensic, Secretary and Linda Smith, Treasurer. Rich & I went to the party and what a blast it was. They’re all very friendly and have a way of making you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. At Winter Carnival, Ft. Wayne won the Ultimate Club award, 15 Ultimate man awards, (Tim Tessman the trip leader came in #2), 17 Ultimate Female awards, (Colleen White took 1st place) and the club was 6th place for the Spirit Award. At the party there were members already paying to go to Winter Carnival next year. I would like to say that if anyone hasn’t been to Winter Carnival with CMSC, you should go! This is one fantastic weekend. This was my 1st time there and I’m looking forward to going again next year. The people, the games, the food, the hospitality, the snow, and of course the parties are all fantastic. Skiers, boarders and even non-skiers can all participate and have fun.
Indianapolis Ski club had their last club meeting for this ski season on April 14, 2005. The next meeting will be in August, starting the 2005/2006 season. Brisbane, Australia and Queenstown,
Inland had their clubs Officer & Board member election meeting and “End of the Ski Season” party. It was on April 8th at Rodney’s Bar & Grill in Highland, IN. We also went to this party and had another great time. This is another fun club to be in and party with. The results of the election are as follows; Linda Bennett is still President with Dave Bennett Vice President, Lisa Sarwacinski is still the Secretary and Lisa Gerbick the new Treasurer.
Vikings will be having their elections on April 26, 2005 for the 2005-2006-ski season. I’ll have the details next month.

Correction to the March 2005 Minutes -- Last month I reported that the oldest club in Indiana is Duneland, which is starting their 57th year. I just found out that this wasn’t true. The Ft. Wayne Ski Club is going into their 70th year in January. My apologies and congratulations go to the Ft.Wayne Ski Club. Next time I get an important fact like that, I’ll do my own research on it before announcing it.

VICE PRESIDENT, PUBLIC RELATIONS – BOB MEYER: Called on committees.

Historian – Rich Gallas: Busy gathering pictures. Some Banff Chicago Week pictures should be on the website by next week.

Midwest Skier - Nettie Napravnik: Had to leave early. Bob reported the Seminar issue is in print now. A section for all events including summer events is in this issue. For next year, make sure your club web information is updated to be included in Seminar issue. August is the next deadline. Make sure all club information is updated for that.

Midwest Skier/Web Advertising - Noreen Vonckx: Looking for adds for the directory issue.

Publicity – (Position Available):

Trip Referral – (Position Available): There has been one phone call since January.

Webmaster – Robb Scholl:
Please keep you club and club officer information current on the website. If you are unable to update your information yourself contact your CMSC Regional Vice-President or the CMSC Webmasters (webmaster@skicmsc.org) and we will update it for you.
This is an appeal to clubs to provide information about the destinations they skied this past year. I will create pages for your reviews, comments and publish them on the website. Just send them to the webmaster@skicmsc.org.
Just a reminder that photos from the Europe Trip (Zermatt) and Winter Carnival are available for viewing on the website. I hope to have pictures from Chicago Week (Banff) soon. Additionally all the results for the Carnival games are on the website for your review.
I can’t emphasize enough the advantage to your club to have trip information on the website. We get many thousands of hits on our trip pages so if you are not online with your trips/activities, you are missing out on opportunities to fill your trips and/or grow your club.
General Meeting minutes are published on the web each month. We have minutes dating back to April of 2004.
This is a reminder for clubs to put their summer activities on the web. You can put them on the front page if you want in the Club Announcements section or just in the Club Activities Section or both. All you need to do that is your club ID and password.
I want to encourage clubs to use the Feedback section on the frontpage to let CMSC know what you want from the council.
The Feedback section recently received a suggestion from Nastar Kenneth Hoffman - Just back from the Nastar finals in Park City and took the Silver. I think there are a lot of members who would like to go the finals but don’t want to go alone. Do you think CMSC could set up a trip around the Nastar finals? I’m sure there is some interest in such a trip. Thanks.

To date, we have received 21 completed questionnaires, representing approximately 23% of the member clubs. I have been in communication with the Regionals so they can contact the clubs to encourage them to complete the forms. Even though the requested date has passed, we will still accept completed questionnaires.
We are testing two on-line survey sites for the member’s questionnaire. The key criteria are confidentiality, ease of use, and report availability.
Once a site is selected and the survey is developed, the committee will be asking two or three clubs to “test” the survey before rolling it out to all member clubs. We will be looking for a club that uses e-mail extensively and a club that rarely uses the Internet.

National Ski Council Federation – Keith Fanta:
I received an e-mail from Mike Sanford, the President of the Far West Ski Association and the Public Affairs chair for the Federation. Mike is very well connected in many areas of the industry, and he maintains a strong connection with the Denver office of Congressman Mark Udall of Colorado, who is one of two sponsors of the Congressional Caucus for Skiing and Snowboarding.

Mike has sent a communication regarding the inconsistent application of baggage policies among airlines, as well as airline employees at side-by-side ticket counters. The two issues he has brought up are the airlines counting the boot bag and ski bag as one, and how to handle helmets regarding luggage. He acknowledges that people do have oversized boot bags, but brings up the not so fairly new question of whether a helmet is clothing or a piece of equipment. Mike has asked that the Caucus address a consistent policy to serve as a guide to all airlines.

Mike reports that Congressman Udall's office is receptive to the idea of taking on the subject with possible Federation assistance.

Past President - Bea Mejia: Absent. No report.

Nominations – Bea Mejia (Chair): Absent. There were no new nominations at the last meeting. After tonight the nominations will be closed. Elections are next month. Susan Poole -- Chicago Friars Ski and Bike Club, Freeport Ski Club, Salt Creek Ski Club, Sitzmark Ski Club, Snomads Ski Club, Snowseekers Ski Club, Wheel Ski Club: Sitzmark took 35 members to Sun Valley, ID on Feb 26 to Mar 5. The Snow Creek and Dollar Meadows condos of Sun Valley properties were very good. The weather was picture-perfect every day – around 42 degrees during the day. No fresh snow, but Sun Valley has an awesome snow making system that covers most of the mountain to augment the 60 to 46 inch base. This is a steep mountain and was difficult for our novice beginner skiers. They did however have a great time skiing at Dollar Mountain all week, right next door. Several members went paragliding off the peak of Bald Mountain near the Lookout Restaurant. Very exciting? Steve Person, a manager of the Sun Valley Deli and Liquor store, is a great person to work with your party needs. Any club going to Sun Valley in the future should contact Sun Valley Liquor and Deli or party needs. Steve is willing to work with your club’s needs. He did an excellent job and at reasonable prices. The deli phone number is 208-622-2060.

Ed Sieg -- Alpine Ski Club, Grand Prix Ski & Snowboard Club, J’s Ski & Snowboard Club, Latvian ski Club, Lithuanian Ski Club, Norge Ski Club, Zoom Zoom Mountain Ski Club: The Grand Prix and Snowboard club had their Marquette, MI trip last weekend with a full 55 passenger bus. In previous years we always had 2 busses, quiet bus and a party bus. Participation on all 3 of our Midwest trips was down this year compared to the previous years.

Alice Smith -- Fireside Ski Club, Greater Grand Rapids Ski Club, Omaha Ski Club, Piccadilly Ski Club, Sno Gophers Ski Club, Snow System Ski Club, Thunderbirds Ski Club:

Bob Spindell -- Downhillers Ski Club, Gelandesprung Ski Club, Schussboomers Ski & Snowboard Club of Milwaukee, Sitzmark Ski Club of Milwaukee, Skihasen Ski Club, Sly Fox Ski Club, Vagabond Ski and Social Club of Milwaukee:

Ski and Social Club, Cornhuskers Ski Club, Elmhurst Ski Club, Four Winds Ski and Social Club, Mississippi Valley Ski Club, Rock Valley Ski Association, Skiowans Ski Club: Rick Burke will be taking over for Mikki, who has moved to Arizona. This is the report from Rick Burke: I have attended the Elmhurst and Four Winds meetings and sent an introductory email to the other clubs reminding them to update their delegate list.

Nancy Van Broekhoven -- American Blind Skiing Federation, Chicagoland Handicapped Skiers, Hustlers Ski Club, Ibex Ski and Snowboard Club, Midwest Ski Academy, Oak Park Ski Club, Schussers Ski Club:
Attended IBEX Bar of the Month at Baccus Nibbles.
Hustlers want to remind us of their new twist on BOM. They hold birthday bashes at various bars/clubs honoring all with a birthday that month.
Now that spring is around the corner and year end parties and summer events are being planned, I am working with clubs to get their events posted on the website. A good example is IBEX.

VICE PRESIDENT, PUBLIC RELATIONS – BOB MEYER: Called on committees.

Historian – Rich Gallas: Rich has a new camera and will take pics when everyone’s not looking. Kid’s Day picks will be posted on the CMSC website. He needs pics from Chicago Week. Talk to Lynn Manley.

Midwest Skier - Nettie Napravnik: Reports this is getting ready to be finished. Missing: Chicago Week 2006 Articles. Also, if your club’s info on the CMSC website is wrong, then the info on MWS will be wrong.

Webmaster – Robb Scholl: Looking for Board, Trip Leader, and Activities content. If clubs need passwords, they can get them from Robb.

VICE PRESIDENT, RECREATIONAL SKIING – RANDY BAUSTERT: Called on committees.

Alpine Racing- John Daviduke: By Michael Burke: Sad news the racing season is over for this year. February 26 & 27 at the Lacrosse was a great weekend. The course was about the longest run of the season and they had a ton of gates. That is one place that is Racer friendly. So racers that missed that race missed a lot.
Race meetings will continue next month, 7pm second Tues of each month, until November, here at Oak Meadows. Committee will meet later this month as soon as enough bids come back.
We need someone to take over Bill’s position.

Blind & Handicapped Liaison - Bob Meyer:

Instructors’ Clinic – Cindy and Jack Giba: Postponed to Saturday January 22, 2005 at Villa Olivia – This years clinic was extremely successful. Talk to your clubs about next years’ clinic. This is a great way to get new members into skiing.

Ski Jump Liaison - Keith Fanta: As I promised at the last meeting, I have some interesting results from Norge’s tournament in January.
Scott Smith, Norge’s head coach, took 1st place in Master Class 2.
Michael Glasder owned the previous hill record of 77 meters, and in his first hump set a new record at 77.5 meters.
In J2 Class there were three Norge jumpers in a field of 13, and they finished: 1st, Michael Glasder; 5th - Evan and 12th - Darren Lockhart.
Kyle Lockhart dedicated his second jump to his women and set a new hill record at 78.5 meters.
In J1 class there were three Norge jumpers in a field of nine, and they finished: 1st, Kyle Lockhart; 2nd, Mike Furey and 6th, Andrew Schauer.
In A class there were two Norge jumpers in a field of 15 and they finished 2nd, Kyle Kessler and 9th, Garrett Fisk. In that class, Kyle Kessler, the Norge jumper who is on the United States Development Team, beat Anders Johnson who is already on the US Ski Team.
In the Saturday junior tournament Norge had 4 jumpers compete on the K5, 8 jumpers on the K10; 6 jumpers on the K22; 5 jumpers on the K47, for a total of 23 juniors competing.
The 3rd Sat & Sun in September will be their Summer Tournament.

The annual meeting will be held August 26 through 29 at Crested Butte. Officers of the Federation are elected for two-year terms, and all four officers are up for election this year. There has been little to no communication from the Federation since early December, and I’m hoping that a change in leadership from the election in August will alleviate that problem.
As I stated at the last meeting, the Mountain Travel Symposium will be held in Aspen from April 6 to 10. John Kuhn, as Vice-President of Trips, will be presenting CMSC. Part of Hon’s goal in attending will be to interest new vendors in CMSC and our clubs.
It is our understanding that the following clubs are sending representatives: Champaign, Chicago Friars, Nomads, Omaha, Peoria, Sitzmark – Milwaukee, Skihasen, Skunk Hollow and Springfield.

In other industry news I read recently that skier and snowboarder visits are up at certain Canadian ski areas and that is being attributed to the fact that there is no NHL season this year.

Instructors’ Clinic – Cindy and Jack Giba: Postponed to Saturday January 22, 2005 at Villa Olivia –
The CMSC Instructors Clinic was held on Saturday, 1/22/05 from 8AM to 4PM at Villa Olivia ski area in Bartlett, IL. The price to attend was $40 which included lift ticket, lunch, and clinic. Villa Olivia charged us $26.50 for the lift ticket (regularly $33.50) and $17.00 for rentals (regularly $25.50). One person took advantage of the rentals. Individuals attending the clinic who also worked at Villa Olivia only paid $13.50 for the clinic as CMSC was not charged for their lift tickets or the Giba’s lift tickets (6 people counting us).
In attendance were 16 participants representing 7 CMSC clubs. We had an earlier date scheduled for this event, 12/18, however due to no snow at that time, the clinic was rescheduled for 1/22. The weather cooperated this time, dumping 12” of beautiful champagne powder snow on us. Actually the weather almost cooperated too much, with the storm starting Friday evening and continuing throughout the day Saturday. Being the hardy skiers that everyone was, we only had one person cancel on Friday evening. Everyone else made the journey to ski wonderful fresh powder in the Midwest, a highly unusual combination.
We started out the day getting to know each other and reviewing the agenda while gathering everyone’s expectations for the day. We split into two groups and were on the hill before the lifts opened, reviewing the ‘skiing progressions from the beginning’. Then it was everyone’s turn to teach a segment which really helps to anchor what has just been learned. Thanks to all attendees for stepping forward and volunteering to teach, they all did a good job.
We broke for lunch in our own banquet room with our own lunch menu (not the cafeteria choices) which allowed continued discussion and networking regarding ski teaching, ski clubs, and trips.
The after lunch agenda was designed to cover more advanced lessons on skier development and movement observations, which included many exercises to help work on the four skiing skills: Balance, Edging, Rotary, and Pressure.
Specially designed CMSC patches were awarded to participants for their participation in the clinic and proficiency in teaching a skiing progression back to the group. Those individuals were:
Charlotte Bader 400 Ski Club
Dale Wiback Fleetwind
Phil Skultety Four Winds
Dennis Skultety Four Winds
Susan Poole Friars
Sal DeTraglia Hustlers
Lois DeTraglia Hustlers
Bill Kabot Hustlers
Dominic Kichenside Hustlers
Cathy Kichenside Hustlers
George Kotsiopoulos Hustlers
Don Krbec Hustlers
Chuck Montagna Hustlers
Dave Durdel Peoria
Steve Walz Peoria
Ron Stradt Springfield
The feedback we received from the participants about the clinic was very positive. Everyone learned something about their own skiing (through feedback and exercises), as well as how they can help other individuals improve or learn to ski. We enjoyed organizing and facilitating the clinic too!
Jack and Cindy Giba - PSIA Ski Instructors at Villa Olivia Ski Area and Hustlers Ski Club

Keith -- This was our best turn out in years. For clubs looking for ways to get new members, this is it.

Ski Jump Liaison - Keith Fanta: Norge’s 100th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament was held a few weeks ago and was a success. The weather was cold, and we had a number of volunteers helping on Sunday. Special thanks to Mikki who volunteered as a marker both Saturday and Sunday, and she’s probably still thawing out.
I had planned to announce some of the results tonight, but didn’t get a chance to put them all together. I will have them for next month’s meeting.

VICE PRESIDENT, TRIPS – JOHN KUHN: Called on committees:

Europe – Bill Gleason (Chair), Mike Pogar (Asst.): January 14 – 23, 2005; Zermatt, Switzerland –
Zermatt, Switzerland was a great ski week with mixed weather (some sun, some warm weather, some cold, some cloudy days, some storms and some powder). We skied all of the mountain, but not all runs. We skied 114,000 total vertical feet in 6 days. We had 21 to 28 usually skiing together, and keeping up all day. And that’s quite a lot considering that the snowstorms included winds that kept many lifts closed several times.
We had 31 people ski together over to Cervinia, Italy. 28 skiers braved the whole day with the group including 3 apres ski huts on the way down the mountain at 7:30 PM. During the week we stopped at 18 of the 39 listed mountain huts plus 2 in Italy. No major injuries.
Great hotel (Ambassador) with a excellent location and great food served with a great presentation. In the evening we visited nine different bars and night clubs (some more than once).

Michael was pleased with camaraderie of group. Trip had sold out with 42 people, 21 were new to Europe or traveling there with CMSC. Thanks to old timers who helped them feel welcome. Sixteen rented skis at discount from Bayard Sports which was recommended by hotel. Wine and cheese party allowed sampling from nearby wine and cheese shop.
One couple rented a car in Tesch for the day and ventured the mountain highways to Bern and small towns along the way. Three people took a day trip to Leukerbad (2 ½ hours away) for the hot mineral baths, Spa and shopping. At the end of the week two folks went directly home, 12 went on to ski with the Fleetwind ski club in Serre Chevalier, France, the rest of the group of 28 had an overnight in Amsterdam and 15 of us were there for 3 nights. Our hotel, City Center, was quite good all around including very good location for exploring Amsterdam. Museums were open all weekend. The Anne Frank House was very impressive with a lot of things from the book coming to life.

Bill and Michael were very pleased that everyone had an excellent ski and sightseeing vacation with CMSC. Many new friendships were made and we hope to be skiing and hut hopping with you again soon. The first timers with us now know why we carry headlamps with our ski gear. The planning for Europe in January 2006 is in the works.

Winter Carnival – Colleen White (Trip Chair): March 11-13, 2005 - Schuss/ Shanty Creek – Absent. Nettie reported that the committee had the first meeting last night. The theme is “Viva Las Vegas”. They have come up with some new games. Clubs should bring their own chorus girls.

Chicago Week 2005 – Lynn Newton (Chair), Debbie Clegg (Asst.): March 19 –26, 2005 – Banff, Alberta, Canada – Getting close! We will have packets for everyone ready to be picked up at next month’s CMSC General Meeting. I believe that’s 3/8.
We have 8 clubs and 92 people going as of now. All of the clubs are full but if you’re still interested, let Debbie or myself know.

Chicago Week 2006 – March 25 – April 1, 2006 – Aspen, Colorado: No report.

Trip (bid) Selection – Teri Kinney: E-mail was sent Friday to clubs who have participated in Chicago Week the past few years announcing Chicago Week 2007 committee meeting this Thursday, February 10th at 7:00 PM. Meeting will be held at Good Times Pub – 675 North Avenue, Elmhurst. Good Times is located on the northwest corner of North Avenue and 83 (in same shopping center as Diplomat West, where CMSC banquets were held in the past). Purpose of the meeting will be to review the bids we received for 3 areas (Sun Valley, Whistler and Breckenridge). Committee will attempt to choose which bids will be invited to present at bid presentation in April.
Date for Bid Presentation is set for Saturday, April 16th to be held at Oak Meadows.
If your club would like to send a representative to the committee meeting on Thursday, please send an e-mail to terifine@aol.com with the person’s name. Please only 1 voting rep per club.

The bid requests for Europe 2006 are going out this week for Les Deux-Alpe, France; Avoriaz/Morzine, France; Verbier, SZ; Ischgl, AU and Selva/Wolkenstein, IT.

National Ski Council Federation – Keith Fanta:
The National Ski Council Federation has arranged for various benefits for members, clubs and councils belonging to the Federation. By way of your club’s membership in CMSC each of your club’s members are eligible for these benefits.
For the most part these benefits are discounts from various businesses, both ski and non-ski related.
You can check out these benefits by clicking on the Club/Council Benefits List link under the NSCF logo on the upper right of our website, www.skicmsc.org. From this page click on the Members Only Area link. The Members Only Area requires a user name and password. The password is skigroup (one word, all lowercase), and the password is 24councils (one word, all lowercase with the number in numerals). From the Members Only Page click on the NSCF Member Benefits link.
Some of the companies offering benefits via NSCF do compete with our own Associate Members, and that is the reason we direct everyone to the NSCF website and don’t show the benefits on our own website. Also, since the benefits offered via NSCF do change from time to time it would create additional work for our own web people to make updates each time there was a change.
I have been in touch with people at Mountain Travel Symposium regarding which clubs are invited. The requirements for clubs to be invited to Mountain Travel Symposium is that the club runs at least one five to seven day trip on their own that is separate from a council trip, although participation in a council trip as part of the normal complement of club trips does not keep a club from being invited.
The Mountain Travel Symposium will be held in Aspen from April 6 to April 10. The cost to club representatives is $275 and includes round trip airfare on United; round trip ground transportation, four nights lodging (double occupancy, non-smoking) and MTS Group Exchange activities.
As has been the practice in the past, CMSC will be sending the Vice-President of Trips to attend. The following clubs have been invited, but as of January 30 did not make a reservation for a club representative to attend:
400; Bloomington-Normal; Boeing; Chicago Police; Duneland; Elmhurst; Fleetwind; Fort Wayne; Freeport; Gateway Ski USA; Gelandesprung; Grand Prix; Greater Grand Rapids; Hustlers; Ibex; Inland; Joliet; Lafayette; Lake Shore; Lincoln Park; Mississippi Valley; Oak Park; Piccadilly; Pine Point; Sanctuary; Schussers; Sitzmark; Skiowans; Sly Fox; Snowdrifters; Snow Hawks; Snowseekers; St Louis; Thunderbirds; Viking; Wild Bunch.

The following clubs are sending representatives: Champaign; Chicago Friars; Nomad; Omaha; Peoria; Sitzmark – Milwaukee; Skihasen; Skunk Hollow; Springfield
CMSC has no involvement with the decisions as to which clubs get invited, although we do submit the Annual Directory of the Midwest Skier to help provide club information, and our website along with the individual club websites are also utilized.

Past President - Bea Mejia: No report.

Nominations – Bea Mejia (Chair): Got together with the appointed Vice Presidents this evening. Bea was elected chairman and Randy Baustert Assistant Chairman. They read officer qualifications to the assembly from the constitution. The elections will take place at the May General Meeting. Nominations at March and April Genera Meetings. Don Blazowski reported on his January 5 – 9th fam trip to Taos, NM arranged by Sport Tours.

Carolyn Knoff reported on her January 23rd extended weekend fam trip to Squaw Valley arranged by Intra-West.

Larry Douglas – I attended a fam trip on February 4 – 9th to Park City, Utah arranged by the Park City Chamber. Representatives from different Councils around the U.S. were invited but due to schedule conflicts, no others could be represented. The CMSC was last there in 2000 and I toured some of the alternate lodging accommodations that would be good for the Council if we return and also some for smaller club trips. I skied the Canyons, Deer Valley and Park City with tours of each area. I particularly recommend taking the complimentary expert tour offered by Deer Valley. It is an excellent way to experience the various ski terrain at the resort.
I also toured the Olympic Park where the 2002 Olympic bobsled, luge and ski jumps were held. For $200 you can experience what its like to go 80 mph and hit 4 g’s in less than a minute.

Keith Fanta -- Debbie and I attended a fam trip last week to the Quebec City and Charlevoix regions of Quebec as a guest of Quebec Tourisme and the ski areas of Stoneham, Le Massif and Mont Sainte Anne. We just got back late Saturday night and haven’t had a chance to put together a formal report, but we will have one at next month’s general meeting.
If any clubs do have a trip to Quebec scheduled this year, please feel free to contact either of us and we’ll be glad to fill you in prior to the next meeting.

Announcements: Mike Pogar said our farewells to Mikki Steinbrink who will be moving to Arizona. She will be missed. The meeting attendees shared a cake in her honor.

Motion to adjourn at 9:52 PM by Randy Baustert. Seconded by Bud Gordon.

Being a non-skier, I was able to help by doing inside things like handing out things on the bus; reserving tables for dinner and keeping track of the paperwork, awards, medals and things like that. It was a fun day, and I know everyone had a great time. Caroline did a fantastic job organizing this.

In this month’s issue the women decided they would publish a set of generic rules for the men who have problems that need correction, or could improve their skills. I have a copy of them for you also if you’d like to pick one up for your education.
I thank all my clubs who send me their newsletters so I can keep in touch with their happenings and can refer people who are interested.
