Fleetwind Ski Club
The FLEETWIND SKI CLUB was founded in 1957 by a group of boaters looking for something to do in the wintertime. They named their group FLEETWIND BOAT and SKI Club. (The name FLEETWIND came from a racing class of sailboat). In the mid 70's we lost just about all of the boaters, but gained a lot of skiers. With no boating activities available, we changed the name to FLEETWIND SKI CLUB and have been going strong ever since. Although we are a downtown Chicago club, our membership is derived from the entire metropolitain area, with a number of members from out-of-state. Our members are a diverse group ranging in age from the twenties to the seventies with skill levels from beginner to some of the best skiers in the Chicago area. We are blue collar, self-employed, retirees, and professsionals of all ethnic and economic backgrounds. We are singles, couples married, and in-between. FLEETWIND is a club dedicated to having fun year 'round. Our goal has always been to run great trips at the lowest possible price so that members can afford to go on more than one trip a year. We have a few traditions in FLEETWIND like beginning the season with our annual trip to Vail over the Thanksgiving weekend, and ending with a 5-day trip to Arapahoe Basin over the Memorial Day weekend. We also run a ski trip to Europe each year, have run 4th of July skiing trips to Mammoth Mtn., and summer ski trips south of the equator. FLEETWIND has always been at the forefront of skiing new areas such as Las Lenas, Argentina, New Zealand, Chile, Andorra, Mt Bohemia, Mi., and most recently Revelstoke, B.C., and Ski amade, in Austria. We also have a history of running trips to ski areas that other clubs don't usually go to such as Red Mtn., Panorama, Silver Star, Sun Peaks, Fernie, and Kicking Horse in B.C., Alyeska, Alaska, Mt. Batchelor, Oregon, Crystal Mtn., Wa., Powder Mtn., Utah, and in Europe: Serre Chevalier, France, Ischgl, Austria, Bormio, Italy, and Flims-Laax in Switzerland. So, if you're adventurous, love to ski , do outdoor summer activities,or would just like to meet a friendly and fun loving group, come to one of our meetings, or better yet, join us on one of our fun-filled trips. We are always looking for new skiers and new friends.
