CMSC's 2022 Europe trip was from January 28 – February 8, 2022 and took place in France and
Spain. In Val d’Isere France, we stayed at the Hotel Val d’Isere. Nice rooms, spa and bar.
Equipment rental in Europe is usually cheaper than in the US and the equipment quality is every
bit as good. Killy sports, right next to the hotel, gave our group a 35% discount - and only
charged for the days each person skied. Plus we did not have to turn in the skis on non-ski
days!
The ski runs were completely snow covered. I never saw a rock on piste. Val d’Isere and Tignes
provided a large variety of skiing for beginners to expert. For non-ski days there was a free
shuttle in Val d’Isere and a regional bus to other areas.
On Saturday, we bused back to Geneva, Switzerland for our flight to Barcelona, Spain. We stayed
at the Oriente Atiram Hotel in Barcelona. It was built in 1643 and has been under a major
renovation, with most of the work completed.
Barcelona had much to do. On Sunday morning we toured the major sights and were able to choose
locations we wanted to return to. Many chose La Sagrada Familia (Church of the Sacred Family)
by Antoni Gaudi, as well as several other Gaudi houses; the Gothic Quarter, the Picasso Museum;
the beach; and more.
I want to thank Sue Finis who stepped in as Assistant trip leader, and all the participants who
provided second opinions when I asked.
