Summer Club
Activities
O
Once CMSC ski clubs put away their winter gear, they
don’t even think of summer hibernation. Groups sched-
ule a vast array of warm-weather events, from camping
and canoe trips to golf outings, bike rides and picnics.
The following reports from member clubs give a sam-
pling of fun events planned for the off season.

What do water balloons, flying cream pies and croquet
have in common? They will all feature prominently in the
Chicago Friars’ Annual Picnic (June 5). Held annually to
kick off the summer schedule of events, the Friars’ family
picnic is open to all ages and all members. Big grilled food
and potluck side dishes will fuel the guests as they rev up
to wield pies or water balloons at a garbage bag-wearing
club president.
And we’ve got pork tenderloin, polkas and plastic jackets if
you test your mettle on one of our five camping trips. Rain
or shine – and believe me, the rain will come – we set up
tents, start the fire once on Friday and keep it burning until
Sunday. We gorge on gourmet food, bathe ourselves in
breakfast and boogie to the best big band in a 15-mile
Bloomington-Normal Ski Club radius when the tornado warning comes across the weather
radio. We dare ya’. (chicagofriars.com)
